On General RP Writing:
Because not all of Tolkien's content is family-friendly, but neither is it obscenely graphic, you have a wide range of flexibility in terms of writing on The Lord of the Rings Forums. However, here are a few writing rules you must adhere to, otherwise, Melkor will deal with you personally
1. No pornographic posts
2. Anything PG-13 and below is definitely allowed. If any post would be considered Rated R, please give the appropriate warning. Anything above Rated R, you must have permission from an administrator in order to release it online. Feel free to ask if your post is allowable, I like reading .
On Godmoding (much of these policies are taken from the 2003 Imladris Convention- LINK:
There are different kinds of godmoding, all of which will be described in turn:
Combat God Moding:
The individual being greater than could feasibly be possible within the grounds of a reality based situation, albeit within a fantasy setting. Infringing on another players rights, with the use of Autoing (automatically injuring / killing without consent). You may RP minor actions which will not disable your opponent to fight back with full strength, so small things like a small puff with the fist are allowed.
Character God Mode:
This can be worked around by obtaining approval from an administrator, especially in the First Age when many ofmy servants were unnamed. Character God Mode occurs when an created character claims unlikely heritage, for example, they are the mortal form of a Dragon from long ago, or the offspring of two Valar, or in other ways a more powerful form of being. A lesser form of this occurs when one might post being the one time lover of Faramir, or the lost child of Luthien, unchronicled.
Story Line God Modes:
These are hard to spot, and the lesser ones are all part of what makes an RPG unique. As a casual member you will hardly ever spot these, since only the Game Master (GM) really knows what is agreed or what is intended for the Story Line. A Story Line God Mode occurs when a member drastically alters the course of an RPG story line without the consent / knowledge of the GM. Some of these are simple to bring back on track. Its part of the art of GMing. Some of them are not easy to bring back on track. If allowed to go too far, or seen too late, the RPG is dead in the water without the deletion of an entire thread or multiple posts. The situation can also be addressed with some seriously creative GMing and a major delay in getting back to what WAS intended.
What to do about godmoding:
If a person is godmoding, he or she will be warned by the Game Master, as well as given an explanation of what they have done wrong. They will get this chance to improve themselves, but if the godmoding continues, the post will be smote by Grond and deleted.
What to do if you have a complaint regarding the Game Master?: Please Private Message an administrator and we will review your complaint.
POST-LENGTH
Unless stated otherwise by the Game Master, to make sure posts at least have some, and preferably good content, we have put a minimum to 300 characters. This is around 3-4 sentences. There are exceptions as we may have threads with the opposite intention.
POST FORMAT:
This is up to the individual, but it should be clear whether you speak or are narrating/ performing an action.
WEAPONS:
You cannot carry more weapons than what would be a reasonable limit if it had been real. It is, however, up to the different kingdoms whether they'd like to make own restrictions for their Armies/Defensive Organisations. If they choose to do so, these regulations will have to be followed by the respective Armies/Defensive Organisations, and these will not be listed here. Mithril is only allowed for the officers of the different armies. No created character can use galvorn.
ANIMALS:
Only animals which exist in Tolkien's world can be used. Below are some of the categories of animals used:
Flying beasts: Only the Nazgul had such a thing. Their Fell beast mounts were made in mockery of Manwë's Eagles. No others had that type of transportation. The Eagles did not like to carry people. (and are like a race of their own) They would come to aid if called...as in the tree incident or top of a tower rescue, but not for transportation purposes or used as a steed for fighting. Dragons cannot be tamed, and are independent beings.
Ridden beasts: Wargs are acceptable. Horses can of course also be used.
Other animals: Wolf-hounds and birds of different kinds are allowed. Crebain spies are also acceptable.
MAGIC:
Magic is the heightened inborn abilities of an entity and includes controlling and manipulation of nature within natural bounds(with restrictions of course); wisdom , foresight, and clear and enhanced mental ability; and lastly, an ability in the lore of crafting. Magic is not the ability to create something out of nothing; immediate control over one's surroundings or environment, or fireballs, lightning bolts, and summoning of a battalion of pterodactyls.
So, when speaking of magic, no race would be left out really, according to Tolkien all beings have abilities that are enhanced. Some examples include:
Hobbits: Quick, quiet and stealthy. Have the ability to hide from the big folks. Also resistant to evil forces, having a knack to look at the good no matter the odds. Bilbo was picked as a thief, you don't think Gandalf lied did you?
Men: Extraordinarily flexible. Curious, Intellectuals, with a mind for invention and a future. Great leaders with the power to enthuse their peers and followers, such as Aragorn.
Dwarves: Builders and crafters, sturdy and rugged. Built to last against an evil world
Elves: Most "magical" beings of the Children of Illuvatar. Do not feel effects of weariness easily. All senses are heightened. Their closeness with nature allows them to control it within an area. Even with the rings, Elrond and Galadriel could only hold the world's first glory within certain areas. Elves also held wisdom and foresight and some mastered the art of smithying such as the Noldor.
Ents: Also, like elves and Istar, hold the healing power of the earth within their grasp and wield the strength of many men. Close with nature and can feel its hurts.
Istari: Restricted forms of the Maiar who held sub-creative power. They, like elves had control of over different aspect, but appeared to be within greater strength in some cases. Saruman bred orcs and men, formed wind storms above Caradhras, certainly one did not just appear there it took him time to channel windflows, blah blah, etc. But for an Istar to do this during battle would bring his or her ruin if in mid-battle. Use of such abilities would result in weakness and fatigue.
